Veteran actor Mukul Dev, known for his powerful roles across Bollywood, Punjabi, and South Indian cinema, recently opened up about a career-changing moment involving none other than Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.
The Unexpected Offer from Bollywood Legends
In a nostalgic interview, Mukul Dev revealed that he was left speechless when he was offered his debut role by Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan under their production banner Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Ltd (ABCL). He said,

“When they told me I was selected, I said – ‘Why are you joking with me?’ It felt unreal.”
The film, titled Naam Kya Hai, was ultimately shelved, but the news of the casting and its promotions gave Mukul Dev his first spotlight in the industry.
Mahesh Bhatt Noticed Him – And the Rest is History
While the ABCL film didn’t release, the promos featuring Mukul reached Mahesh Bhatt, who then cast him in the 1996 psychological thriller Dastak opposite Sushmita Sen. That film became Mukul’s official Bollywood debut and a breakthrough moment.
“Dastak was a dreamy red-carpet launch,” Mukul once said, remembering the grand opportunity.

Beyond Hindi films, Mukul Dev built a strong career in Punjabi, Bengali, Telugu cinema and Indian television. He hosted Fear Factor India and also holds a pilot’s license from the Indira Gandhi Institute of Aviation.
